The Method / Practice
Rituals
Ten minutes. Every day. They'll remember if you skip it.
Rituals are the difference between a cat who tolerates you and a cat who trusts you. Consistency matters more than duration.
The Daily Hunt
Ten minutes of focused, interactive play. Same time each day. Your cat's internal clock is more accurate than your phone.
The sequence:
Warm-up (slow movements) → Escalation (faster, more erratic) → The catch (let them win) → Cool-down (slow again) → Treat
The Evening Settle
Play session before your final meal of the evening. Hunt → Kill → Eat → Groom → Sleep. This is the natural sequence. Work with biology, not against it.
3am zoomies often mean the evening ritual was skipped.
The Slow Blink
Not a myth. Slow blinks are cat for "I trust you enough to close my eyes." Return them. Often. Especially during quiet moments.
The Greeting
When you come home, acknowledge them. Get on their level. Offer a hand. Let them come to you. This is not optional pet-parent theatre: it's respect.
The Non-Negotiable
- Ten minutes. Every day.
- Not when you remember. Not when convenient. Every day.
